Create the MT5 account before connecting
Enter the Exness Personal Area, open a new trading account and choose MT5 from the offered platforms. Choose demo or real, account type and currency, then set the trading password. Keep its number and server together.
Obtain MT5 through Exness’s platform/download options. In the desktop login dialog or mobile existing-account flow, use those trading credentials. An Exness-platform account is a different selection and does not become an MT5 login simply because both appear in the same Personal Area.

Read orders, deals and positions separately
| Record | Meaning | Question it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Order | An instruction requesting a trading action | What did I ask the platform to do? |
| Deal | An execution of that instruction | What quantity actually traded? |
| Position | The exposure that remains | What is still open? |
Hypothetical calculation
A partial-close example
Assume a demo position contains 0.10 lot and a closing deal removes 0.04 lot. The remaining position is 0.06 lot. One new execution in history does not mean the whole original position has closed.
This hypothetical example is about reading volume, not a return forecast. Record the position before and after the action. If a screen freezes, read the current position and deal history after reconnecting before sending another close request.
What changes when moving from MT4
MT5 has its own MQL5 development and testing tools. Existing MQL4 EAs and indicators need compatible versions; copying a file into a new folder does not migrate its logic. Test order handling as well as chart appearance.
For Hong Kong readers comparing a local HKD budget with terminal results, keep the selected trading-account currency visible in the journal. A change of platform does not perform a currency conversion.
Fix the connection before changing the strategy
For Authorization Failed, compare server, account number and trading password, then make sure the account is actually MT5. For a disconnected terminal, rescan servers and restore connectivity. If an order is rejected after successful login, keep that separate error and its symbol details for support.
CFD trading risk
Leveraged CFDs can cause substantial losses, including the money in your trading account. Margin is not a loss limit, and a stop-loss does not guarantee its execution price.
